Sometimes we become complacent with the things we've learned and achieved. It becomes easy to believe that the tools, and the skills we have acquired are suitable for every situation.
The truth is just the opposite. We must always remain in the posture of self-development, of learning and preparation in order to go to the next level.
A true champion is always in preparation for the main event. With every victory there is someone who is in the same posture of preparation with the champ as the target. This requires all intended to aim higher.
For one, aiming higher may be exercising, for another it may be practicing for greater precision. For all of us, our "self," or should I say our soul, or mind - the seat of our emotions, the generator of our will, the guide of our decisions and behavior, must continually be developed.
We must then be mindful of what is shaping our thoughts and our mindset. King David realized this when he was inspired to write, "Your Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." He realized that not only would he be guided in the direction of his purpose, but the path would become clearer as he read, studied, and meditated upon the will of God articulated by His Word.
So what are you reading? Consider those who are doing what you want to do; those who are going where you want to go, and find out what they are reading and writing. Then read it! Then meditate upon it. Then apply it. Elevate your mind and you elevate your life.
Of all the material you read and media you consume, be sure to make the book inspired by the Creator of the Universe number one on your list. As the prophet Jeremiah put it, "God knows the plans He has for you. They are plans to prosper you and not to harm you. To give you a future and a hope."
